Choose One Day to Build Your Focus

How often have you said to yourself, “I would be better off if I were more focused.

Now’s your chance.

Dedicate the hottest day of the week to working on the passion project you’ve been putting off.

In my day job, we skip most meetings on Fridays so I can work through the morning and get things done without distractions.

I always seem to have the most motivation to do things on Friday. I have this natural tendency to put things off till the last minute (procrastination). It can be a good and bad thing.

Good that I’m able to hyperfocus and get real work done.

Bad that it takes so long to get things done late. But as they say, better late than never.

For some reason, I always have the energy to do creative work on Fridays. It’s technically still a weekday but on the weekend's edge.

A Focused Friday is the best time to try a new experiment.

Why?

Because all the busywork is gone from Tue-Thu. It’s slow in the business world for most people.

And social media isn’t growing on Friday (as told by most growth gurus and my historical lack of engagement).

So you might as well use it to focus on something you’ve been putting off:

  • Goals you want to start the next week.

  • Creative projects you’ve been planning (but not doing)

  • A business you’ve been thinking about (see Million Dollar Weekend)

One common trait I see in common from all successful people, multi-millionaires, consistent creators, and sustainable solopreneurs:

Focus.

Our boy Dan Koe wrote his first book about it. Zack Pogrob spent 4 years posting content before hitting viral. Panda Express has been running the same business model for 40+ years.

What’s the common denominator in others who end up quitting?

Multi-passionate, creatives trying to do it all, serial overthinkers, and last but not least, hustle culture.

All roads lead to burnout.

I hear about people on their deathbeds speaking on their biggest regrets: not spending enough time with loved ones and not going after their biggest goals. It may have been different if they knew two things:

1) How to focus 
2) What to focus on

My mission here is to give you the tools you need to live a life of focus.

I realized my neurodivergent tendencies, but don’t want to label myself, “ADHD” or what have you. I don’t want it to be a limiting belief. So this letter serves as our training ground to develop a laser-like focus on the things that matter.

To do that, we need a few key things:

  • Accountability (you and I)

  • One habit to build at a time (systems)

  • A singular project or experiment with a deadline (goal)

  • And a timeline long enough to build momentum but short enough to keep energy high (challenges).

Let’s call out the enemies of focus.

Distractions, too much ToDo, and lack of constraints. So we need systems, accountability, and feedback to improve our processes.
